Organic farming means to do the cultivation process without
the use of fertilizers. The concept of organic farming is not new to India. In
India it has been practiced for ages and with the development in agriculture
practices, people have accepted the trend of inorganic farming, in order to
obtain better results in crop yielding. By use of fertilizers we can increase
our agriculture output but the health of soil deteriorates with time. As we all
know that whatever chemical we put in our fields that cannot be disintegrated
during the tenure of our crop. With the next crop we put another dose of fertilizers.
The amount of fertilizers applied cannot be utilized fully by crop that results
in increasing the chemical residue in our fields. The fertility of the soil
slows down and we have to put an extra dose to get the better yields. This is a
loss in monetary terms as well as health of the soil.
Advantages
of organic farming
·
By organic farming, we can make our soil
more healthy and fertile. As we put animal waste, vermin compost, leaves manure
or any kind of organic manure. The organic manure helps the fertilizer residue
to disintegrate completely, resulting in a good output. In this kind of farming
we have to stay away from the chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and
any kind of growth promoter.
Present
scenario of organic farming in India
With the development in agriculture sector people
are getting informed about the ill effects of over use of fertilizers but if a
farmer opts for organic farming, he has to sacrifice his productivity and has
to invest more in manual labor. This additional cost and loss of productivity
has become a hindrance in the way of general populace accepting the process of
organic farming. After organically producing the agriculture products when a
farmer reaches market with his agricultural produce; despite having additional
health and eco benefits this farmers will get not a single penny more for his organically
grown crop. If that organically produced vegetables or any produce could fetch
a few bucks more only then this concept can be accepted by many. Metropolitan cities
have different counters for selling organic vegetables and of course at double
the price. But small cities suffer from the lack of information and awareness. In
Indian villages people have dependency on animal husbandry as well that could
serve as an added advantage in the way of organic cultivation.
